Unique risks facing the Hospitality industry
In addition to the usual risks facing most businesses (see our Business Insurance page for more details), there are some unique risks that need to be considered when designing an insurance package for cafés, restaurants, pubs and other hospitality establishments.
Broadly speaking, these risks can be split into:
Provides cover for your contents, equipment, fit out and stock if they are damaged or destroyed by a fire, storm, burst pipe, impact, accidental or malicious damage.
Cafés and restaurants are particularly vulnerable due to the fire risks associated with deep frying. Insurers ask specific questions regarding deep frying, wok cooking, grease traps, cleaning and fire safety etc.
Prices vary significantly between insurers based on the size of your café / restaurant and the cooking activities in the kitchen so it pays to shop around.
Could your café or restaurant survive if you were unable to trade for a week? What about a month?
Imagine these scenarios:
Business interruption insurance is designed to respond to such situations and can cover the loss of sales while your business is temporarily out of operation due to an insured event, such as a fire, or storm.
This cover can be the difference between an event being an unfortunate inconvenience and the end of your business.
Calculating the sum insured for your business interruption can be tricky. Our experienced insurance brokers are happy to review your profit and loss statement to help you calculate the level of cover you need.
Cafés and restaurants rely on expensive equipment every day.
What would you do if your oven, or coffee machine broke down?
What if your fridge burnt out overnight and your stock spoiled?
Machinery Breakdown cover is designed to respond in situations such as these, and associated deterioration of stock can even be covered.
Give us a call today to see how we can incorporate this important cover into your business insurance package.
Accidents happen — don’t get caught out! Public liability insurance is designed to cover you and your café or restaurant if a claim is made against you for negligence resulting in third party injury or death.
Imagine the following hospitality scenarios:
Public liability is engineered to respond to situations like these and keep your business running.
Glass can be fragile, and cafes and restaurants tend to be filled with glass windows, doors, shop fronts and display cases.
Did you know that you may be responsible for the glass at your premises, even if you don’t own the building? Many leases pass this onto the tenant — make sure to carefully check yours.
Glass insurance is designed to cover the cost of replacing and fixing unexpectedly broken glass, including damage to signage on the glass.
